Working closely with the NYSCA, SBLM reduced the project schedule to alleviate severe overcrowding in the school system. SBLM fully coordinated all construction documents, as well as the design phase. As a prime example of adaptive reuse, SBLM converted an abandoned 200,000 sq ft manufacturing warehouse into four high schools serving over 1,600 students, including a District 75 (special needs) School. This project proved to be challenging since the structure of the building had panel columns with 20ft centers. Due to both transit and air traffic from LaGuardia Airport, the building envelope required superior acoustical performance to deflect ambient noise. This project was completed within 16 months. The module allowed SBLM to incorporate flexible breakout spaces into the plan and use accented color and materials to establish separate indentities for each school.
